The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and the most remote areas.
The SAGDB started operating in Mpumalanga in 2011 with a 14-Player Program in Witbank. Since then we have grown to just under 200 players receiving coaching in Secunda, Mbombela, Middelburg/Witbank, Pilgrims Rest, Komatipoort and Malelane.
Our biggest success to date was winning the Nomads Imperial Auto MFC SAGDB Challenge at Benoni Lake Golf Club in 2015 – This was the first ever Inter Provincial type tournament that the SAGDB held.
The most successful player that came out of our program so far is undoubtedly Banele Mavuso. Banele was chosen to represent the SAGDB in Scotland in 2015 and was Most Valuable Player at the SA Nomads U19 IPT in 2015 & 2016.
Edwin Compton is the Regional Manager for the South African Golf Development Board in Mpumalanga and is based at the National Junior Development Centre at Leopard Creek Country Club. Edwin is a proud member of the PGA of South Africa.
